Linotype-Hell Quasar Type 4570
The Quasar is a laser imagesetter with internal drum principle for the exposure of PostScript files.
The PostScript files are converted in the connected RIP (Raster Image Processor) in pixel files and sent to the quasar.
Exposure is made on photographic material (film or paper) in daylight operation. As light source a laser diode was used with light emission in the visible red (670nm).
The maximum exposure size is 505mm x 525mm.
Flächenbelichter
The quasar is a Flächenbelichter. The recording beam illuminates the document, not character by character, but the line moves record for recording line across the entire width of the photographic material.
This method requires the recording of the set of data calculated in pixels (dots) break before beginning the exposure. The number of pixels per inch (pixels / cm) or dots per inch (dpi = dots per inch) is the selected resolution.
